Eastwood Guitars SD-40 Hound Dog
Hound Dog Taylor Tribute model
Teisco / Kawai inspired electric guitar
The SD-40 from Eastwood Guitars is a tribute to the vintage Kawai / Teisco SD-40, also known as the Hound Dog Taylor model. Original examples of these vintage instruments are hard to come by these days, and even if you did find one, the chances it would be playable are slim. This is an awesome guitar! Like all of Eastwood’s “tribute / inspired by” models, it captures the essence and vibe of the original, but has been enhanced with player friendly upgrades for improved functionality and playability. Thanks to a comfy “C” shaped neck profile with 12” radius and good sized frets, the Jazzmaster-style Tremolo with a Roller Bridge, and good quality tuners – This guitar plays great. Electronically, the solid double cutaway body is equipped with four great sounding single coil pickups, each with its own on/off switch and volume control - imagine the sonic possibilities! The SD-40 Hound Dog has also been designed to play nice with modern effects pedals and amps, so feel free to stretch your tonal palette from clean to full-on fuzz.
About Hound Dog Taylor
Born with six fingers on each hand, Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor once drunkenly tried to remove his extra digits with a razor blade. Thankfully, he was only partially successful, leaving his left hand intact to execute his wild, “Elmore James on crystal meth” slide runs. Despite his clownish stage persona, Hound Dog loved to fight with his bandmates, and even wounded House Rockers guitarist Brewer Phillips with a handgun when one dissing session got out of hand. A devotee of $50 pawnshop guitars and busted amps, Hound Dog rarely practiced, and he never performed sober. "When I die," he sagely predicted, "they'll say, 'He couldn't play shit, but he sure made it sound good!'"
