Supro Amps S6420 Thunderbolt 1x15” combo

35 watt Tube Guitar Amplifier

Once upon a time, a certain manufacturer created one of the worst-sounding bass amps ever produced. It was underpowered and distorted like crazy. Then one day, an adventurous young lad plugged-in an electric guitar, turned it up all the way, and experienced the most amazing, raw tube distortion they had ever heard. The tone was positively huge! Epic, raw, overdriven and tooth-rattling. Behold the Supro S6420 Thunderbolt! It’s got all you need- Two knobs and the TRUTH.

The legendary 1964 “Blue Rhino Hide” Supro Thunderbolt is back. Sporting only a volume and tone control, the simplistic design of the S6420 Thunderbolt is renowned for its bold, full-range sound and up-front, honest midrange. This tube guitar amplifier is loaded with a cathode-biased 6L6 output section producing 35 watts of pure rock 'n' roll power. The Thunderbolt covers a remarkable spectrum of vintage tone while wringing every ounce of personality from any guitar. From clean jazz to Tele twang, soapbar blues to humbucker grind, the Thunderbolt dishes out 35 Watts of “Class A” tube tone from its dual 6L6 power plant. True to the ‘64 version of the Thunderbolt, a 5U4 rectifier tube is employed to deliver that unmistakable vintage sag. Normal and Extra hot input options, combined with a wide range of available gain on tap, allow you to fine-tune the texture and response of this amp’s massive sound. Turned all the way up, the Thunderbolt exhibits nearly zero self-noise; yet it puts out enough volume to be easily heard on large venue and theatre stages, with overdrive completely controlled by the guitar’s volume knob.

Massive custom transformers and a lightweight, vintage-correct cabinet —combined with the best-sounding 15” guitar speaker money can buy—put the Thunderbolt in a class of its own. With the amp turned all the way up, chords ring with exceptional clarity and definition, even amidst copious amounts of tube overdrive.

Supro's roots can be traced back to the Valco company which manufactured amps and guitars under a variety of brand names, including Airline, Oahu, National, Gretsch, Harmony, and Kay. It was during this time that Valco also began producing guitars and amplifiers under the Supro name. Extremely popular amongst Southside Chicago blues musicians in the 1960’s, Supro amplifiers proved equally popular with the British musicians who were influenced by them. By the late 1960’s, notable guitarists from Jimi Hendrix to Albert Lee to Jimmy Page could be seen playing their Supro amplifiers. Nowadays, original Supro amps are highly sought after and often sell for premium prices on the used market because of their legendary and unique tone.
