The unique bias tremolo can go from subtle to intense, including over-the-top “Crimson and Clover” and “How Soon Is Now” vibes. Budda is famous for its big, crisp cleans and mid-gain rhythm tones, and the Superdrive V-40 Series II head does not disappoint. The V-40's rhythm channel has a spongy, sensitive touch and offers bold, clean Fender-type tones with plenty of bottom end straight off the bat. As you dial the drive knob towards 12 o'clock it goes quickly from country clean to a gritty blues rhythm, which responds brilliantly with single-coil-equipped guitars and has a squashy, American tonality characterized by those 6V6s - it's like you're squeezing the notes out of the amp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ePushing the Rhythm control further take you from blues clean to AC\/DC mean. There's ample gain for rock or heavy rock players who need more hair and fizz around the edges, though it retains the cut and attack of a cleaner tone. The bright switch adds more top-end sizzle to the rhythm sound giving it a brittleness that's better suited to darker, humbucker-equipped guitars than single-coils. The drive channel is certainly a beast. Even with medium gain, we get an injection of thudding, gig-ready volume and relentless attack. It has that hard-hitting, ribcage rattling Marshall-esque character, though with a softer feel and harder mid-range voice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe V-40's overdrive gets grainier, thicker and creamier as you crank it past the halfway stage on the Drive and the Master Volume controls. We get more dirt and push from the midrange, not to mention colossal volume levels - the V-40 is certainly no bedroom delight, this thing is designed to rock on the big stage, even at low-volume levels. Maxing the Drive puts you firmly in the classic rock camp - for screaming modern rock or metal, Budda's Super Drive 45 Series II might be a better option. The V-40, however, delivers anything from thunderous Zeppelin rock rhythms to Cream or Peter Green wailing solos. The Thick control operates best as a lead enhancer; when it's engaged your solos will bulldoze through a band mix. Unfortunately, this feature isn't foot-switchable and can only be activated via the front panel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIf you want a reliable boutique-quality amp that can handle anything from glassy country cleans to AC\/DC mean, with stadium-sized volume capabilities, this Budda Super Drive V-40 Series II head is worth your consideration! There's ample gain for rock or heavy rock players who need more hair and fizz around the edges, though it retains the cut and attack of a cleaner tone. The bright switch adds more top-end sizzle to the rhythm sound giving it a brittleness that's better suited to darker, humbucker-equipped guitars than single-coils. The drive channel is certainly a beast. Even with medium gain, we get an injection of thudding, gig-ready volume and relentless attack. It has that hard-hitting, ribcage rattling Marshall-esque character, though with a softer feel and harder mid-range voice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe V-40's overdrive gets grainier, thicker and creamier as you crank it past the halfway stage on the Drive and the Master Volume controls. We get more dirt and push from the midrange, not to mention colossal volume levels - the V-40 is certainly no bedroom delight, this thing is designed to rock on the big stage, even at low-volume levels. Maxing the Drive puts you firmly in the classic rock camp - for screaming modern rock or metal, Budda's Super Drive 45 Series II might be a better option. The V-40, however, delivers anything from thunderous Zeppelin rock rhythms to Cream or Peter Green wailing solos. The Thick control operates best as a lead enhancer; when it's engaged your solos will bulldoze through a band mix. It's an aggressive, yet surprisingly versatile two-channel amp that covers the ground of vintage Marshall Plexi through the various incarnations and hot-rodded \/ modified versions of that amp. Separate \"Plexi\" and \"Hot\" inputs help make this happen. The Plexi input gives Plexi-style gain on channel two and an ultra-clean channel one. The sweet sparkle of the 6V6 is more of an American sound that some have described as \"Brown Tolexed Deluxe\". Rated at approximately 22 watts, the Z-28 fits under the Route 66 in terms of wattage, and it can easily generate smooth, full distortion at a very useable volume level. Dial in a clear, sweet cleans as well as biting crunch with just 3 knobs. Like other 3 knob Dr Z amps, the unique Bass, and Treble controls function normally until 12:00 and add gain once turned past noon. The sweet sparkle of the 6V6 is more of an American sound that some have described as \"Brown Tolexed Deluxe\". Rated at approximately 22 watts, the Z-28 fits under the Route 66 in terms of wattage, and it can easily generate smooth, full distortion at a very useable volume level. Dial in a clear, sweet cleans as well as biting crunch with just 3 knobs. Like other 3 knob Dr Z amps, the unique Bass, and Treble controls function normally until 12:00 and add gain once turned past noon. The clarity and definition are excellent – Rich, Full and Sparkling with a classic British chime. It’s easy to push this amp into crunchy overdriven territory, but it is very dynamic and has decent headroom too. Just roll down your guitar’s volume control for clean and roll up for that cranked sound. The controls are simple – Volume and Tone with a Bright Switch. It’s loaded with Celestion Vintage 10 speaker. Two EL-84s, Two 12AX7s. What more do you need? The logo is missing but otherwise it’s in decent shape cosmetically. Maybe some minor scuffs here and there, but nothing serious. Never gigged. Home use only. The clarity and definition are excellent – Rich, Full and Sparkling with a classic British chime. It’s easy to push this amp into crunchy overdriven territory, but it is very dynamic and has decent headroom too. Just roll down your guitar’s volume control for clean and roll up for that cranked sound. The controls are simple – Volume and Tone with a Bright Switch. It’s loaded with Celestion Vintage 10 speaker. Two EL-84s, Two 12AX7s. What more do you need? The logo is missing but otherwise it’s in decent shape cosmetically. Maybe some minor scuffs here and there, but nothing serious. Never gigged. Home use only.
